Nominal minimum hours of study plus individual research and on the job application is 600 - 2,400 hours (normally over a period of 6-24 months); OR approximately 10 hours research and study per week (face-to-face/online) for 6 months from commencement. During the balance of the time, learners will be engaged in work-based/simulated work-based (portfolio building) activities and assessments.

Career Opportunities/Vocational Outcomes
This qualification is suitable for people working in a Work Health and Safety (WHS) role who work to provide leadership and guidance to others and have some limited responsibility for the output of others; i.e. WHS Coordinator or WHS Officer.
The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety requires the completion of ten (10) units, consisting of five (5) core units and five (5) electives.
5 Core Units:
BSBWHS402 Assist with compliance with WHS laws
BSBWHS403 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
BSBWHS404 Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
BSBWHS405 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents
- 3 units must be from Group A listed in the Packaging Rules
- 2 units may be from Group A, Group B units listed in the Packaging Rules; or any endorsed Training Package or accredited course at the same qualification level;
- If not listed in the Packaging Rules, 1 elective unit may be selected from a Certificate III or Diploma from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

There are no pre-requisite entry requirements for this qualification.
Articulation Pathways from the Qualification
On completion of this course, you could consider higher qualifications in this Training Package, the Training Package area of your vocational competence, i.e. Diploma of Work Health & Safety (BSB51315) or in the higher education sector. For instance, you may specialise in the Graduate Certificate in Management (Learning) (BSB80515), or Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) (BSB80615) or Graduate Diploma of Strategic Leadership (BSB80215).
Each applicant will be interviewed to ensure suitability of the program for the individual and his/her current position and/or career path.
Gaining University Entrance
A Certificate IV or Diploma may gain 6-12 months advanced standing in a university degree. Some Advanced Diplomas may be eligible for even more credit.
